Carthusia Fragrances from the Island of Capri

The story tells that in 1948 the Priory of Certosa found the old fragrance formulas, under the Pope's license, revealed it to a Piedmontese chemist who thus created the smallest laboratory in the world, calling it "Carthusia", that is, "Certosa".

Remember that in 1380 the aforementioned father of the Certosa di San Giacomo, caught without the news of the coming to Capri of the sovereign Giovanna D 'Angiò, prepared a collection of the most beautiful flowers of the island; those flowers stayed for three days in the same water, and at the time of the first discard, he realized that the water had acquired a fragrance for him mysterious, so that he turned to the learned scholar in alchemy who found the origin of that scent in "Garofilium silvestre caprese ".

That water was the first perfume of Capri.

Today Carthusia has gained its centenary knowledge to develop a unique perfume culture in the world. Over the years he has refined his education of the smell, has perfected and structured more and more the understanding of the essences to offer those who choose his perfumes the most intense emotions and the more senses they can grasp. And nowadays, all stages of production are handmade to ensure strict observance of natural methods and the precious care of craft making.
All the Carthusian fragrances have an invisible and indissoluble bond with Capri. Atmospheres and emotions of Carthusia products arise from a passionate and professional study of elements coming exclusively from what produces Capri Nature. Those elements in Carthusia laboratories meet, blend, become unique olfactory arrangements, unique perfumes. Like the island that generates them.
The symbol of the company was born in 1948, a wonderful opera created by the painter Mario Laboccetta. The icon depicts a "floral mermaid" that evokes the surreal, mythological atmospheres of the classical heritage of Capri. She is a woman who, in the play of her metamorphosis, emits the universe of colorful flowers from which the Carthusian scents descend. A logo that inspires art and nature, in all directions.
