Cire Trudon Classic, Intermediate and Great Candles, Diffuser Sets, Room Sprays and Scented Matches
In 1643, Claude Trudon becomes the owner of a shop in Rue Saint-Honoré. He starts out as a merchant of wax and spices. The candles he manufactures are used in churches and for internal lighting. During Louis XIV's reign, Claude Trudon sets the foundation of a company that will bring fortune to his family. The Manufacture used beeswax to make its candles. Its motto “Deo regique laborant” meant “They work for God and the King” (“they” being the bees). The wax is carefully harvested from the hive before being filtered, washed and exposed to sunlight in order to obtain the purest white possible. The court of Louis the 15th and the kingdom’s largest parishes were seduced by the Manufacture’s perfectly white candles. Besides their immaculate color, they burned for a long time and didn’t splutter. Already true luxury. The Manufacture supplied Versailles up to the last days of the Ancient Regime and survived through the French Revolution. When Napoleon the 1st was crowned in 1811, the Manufacture supplied the imperial court. The Emperor gave his son only one present the day he was born : a Trudon pillar candle adorned with three gold coins showing Napoléon's profile, the Imperial Pillar Candle. In 1889, the Manufacture’s know-how was honored with a gold medal at France’s World’s Fair. In 2007, the company took the name “Cire Trudon” and became a specialist in manufacturing perfumed candles. Today it enlists well-known “noses” to create perfumes for the stories it wishes to tell. Each candle is still dripped and made by hand, perpetuating a luxury manufacturing which helps perpetuates the skills of its founder, Claude Trudon. The wax formulas of the Trudon candles are the fruit of specific developments which are the source of its exceptional olfactory and burning qualities. When correctly taken care of, no smoke leaves a Trudon candle and no wax is left on the sides of the glass. Each glass is unique and hand-crafted in Tuscany. Their shape is inspired by champagne buckets. The wicks are made of cotton. One can find many types of wicks, characterized by their weaving and their diameter. The wicks are chosen depending on the shape and size of the glasses, as well as the burning characteristics of each candle. Elaborated in partnership with renowned perfumers, all Trudon fragrances are developed with the upmost care and patience. From the selection of raw materials, the trials in the in house laboratory, until the final application in wax, many steps pave the way to the birth of a Trudon candle fragrance.
